Quote of the Day...
"When I dare to be powerful, to use my strength in the service of my vision, then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid."
– Audre Lord
About Audre Lord
Audre Lord, the self-described "black, lesbian, mother, warrior, poet," was a National Book Award nominee in 1974 and Poet Laureate of New York in 1991. She was born in 1934 in New York City to West Indian parents. Her high school literary magazine rejected a poem she wrote, deeming it too romantic, so she sent it to Seventeen and was nationally published at age 15. Her poetry expressed what it meant to be a black woman feminist in a society that saw her as an outsider. She died in 1992 of liver cancer.
